Am 6. Mai 2011 erscheint das lang erwartete Debütalbum "What About Love" von Sara Lugo bei Oneness Records und Soulfire Artists/Roughtrade.

Nach ihrer ersten EP „Sara Lugo“ von 2009 und mehreren Beiträgen für Riddim-Selections, u.a. von Pow Pow Movement, Oneness Records und Greenyard Records aus Frankreich, kommt nun das erste Album der Münchnerin in die Läden. Wie von den viel versprechenden bisherigen Veröffentlichungen zu erwarten war, bleibt Sara ihrer Liebe zum Reggae treu, ohne dabei auf abwechslungsreiche Ausflüge in andere Genres zu verzichten. Sie präsentiert zwölf Songs zwischen Modern Roots, Soul und Pop.

Unterstützung fand sie dabei durch eine Schar illustrer Gäste. Musiker von Gentlemans neuer Band The Evolution und Dub Inc. aus Frankreich sind ebenso mit von der Partie wie die Jungs von Jamaram und der Oneness Band. Loomis Green, Gitarrist von Jan Delay, hörte Sara zufällig auf einem Parkplatz singen, als er aus dem Tourbus stieg. Er war so begeistert, dass er sich spontan entschied, einen Song mit ihr aufzunehmen. Auf vielen ihrer Songs begleitet Ausnahmegitarrist Florian Opahle (Ian Anderson von Jethro Tull) Sara. Features mit den jamaikanischen Sängern Lutan Fyah und Naptali sowie dem Münchner Jahcoustix runden dieses überzeugende Debüt ab.

Produziert wurde das Album von Dub- und Reggae-Spezialist Umberto Echo, der Saras warmen und klaren Sound mit viel Detailverliebtheit und seinen herausragenden Skills veredelte.

Ihre Liebe zur Musik bekam Sara Lugo von ihrer musikalischen puertorikanisch-deutschen Familie in die Wiege gelegt. Mit 15 sprang sie das erste Mal als Backgroundsängerin für die Band ihres Bruders im Studio ein. Seitdem hat sie  keine Chance ausgelassen, ihr Talent am Mikrofon zu beweisen. Ob im renommierten New Yorker Jazz-Club The Rose, vor mehr als 20.000 Gästen auf dem Rototom Sunsplash Festival in Spanien, wo sie zusammen mit Chuck Fender sang, oder im Vorprogramm von Jamaram, Jahcoustix oder Ganjaman - mühelos gewinnt Sara dank ihrer unverkennbaren Stimme und sympathischen Art ihr Publikum.

Neben zahlreichen Auftritten hat die heute 23-jährige während der letzten beiden Jahre intensiv an eigenen Songs gearbeitet, von denen nun die zwölf stärksten auf ihrem Debütalbum „What About Love“ zu hören sind. Sara hat nicht einfach nur Lovesongs aneinander gereiht, sondern nähert sich dem Thema Liebe aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln. So fragt sie im Opener „What Happened“ und im Duett mit Lutan Fyah „They Know Not Love“ nach dem Wert der Liebe in unserer Gesellschaft, beschreibt in „Part Of My Life“ das Verhältnis zweier Geschwister, die nach einer Zeit der Entfremdung wieder zusammen finden und in „If Tears“ die Sehnsucht nach einem gerade verstorbenen geliebten Menschen.

Musikalisch hat Sara ihren ganz eigenen Weg gefunden, souligen Gesang mit Roots Reggae zu kombinieren. Gemeinsam mit ihren hochkarätigen Mitstreitern bindet sie auch andere Stilrichtungen geschickt ein.

Sara Lugo präsentiert mit „What About Love“ ein Debütalbum von erstaunlicher Vielseitigkeit, das, getragen von Saras einmaliger Stimme, definitiv das Potential hat, der Soundtrack des Sommers 2011 zu werden.

May 6, 2011 is the date. The debut album for which we have waited so long - ”What about love” by Sara Lugo is finally going to be released by Oneness Records and Soulfire Records/Roughtrade.

After releasing her first EP in 2009 and joining several riddim-selections from Pow Pow Movement, Oneness Records and Greenyard Records from France, the first album from munich singer Sara Lugo is about to drop and will be available in stores. As we could expect from her releases up to now, Sara continues to stick to reggae while mixing new styles from different genres to her music. She presents 12 tracks that move somewhere between modern roots, soul and pop.

Several distinguished international guests joined this production. Musicians of Gentleman's new band “Evolution” and “Dub Inc.” from France are to be heard on the the album as well as the guys from Jamaram and the Oneness Band. Loomis Green, the guitar player for Jan Delay, by chance happened to hear her singing in a parkinglot and came out of the tourbus to ask her to work together. Additionally Florian Opahle, Ian Anderson's (Jethro Tull) guitarist, plays on several of her tunes. Features with jamaican singers Lutan Fyah and Naptali and also munich singer Jahcoustix make the whole CD a very round first Longplay.

The album was produced by dub- and reggae specialist Umberto Echo, whose sound-magic you can hear in the small detail and the clear, warm sound he brings to all of Sara's tracks.

Her love for music comes from her musical family who have their roots in Puerto Rico and Germany. At age 15 she first went to the studio to sing backup for her brother's band and since then hasn't missed a chance to prove her talent on the microphone.

Whether playing at a weekly jam at the renowned New York Jazz Club “The Rose”, captivating 20.000 people at the Rototom Sunsplash in Spain as a feature guest of Chuck Fender, or doing support for Jamaram, Jahcoustix or Ganjaman – one thing is always the case: Sara's unique voice and her shining personality win the crowd.

In addition to shows she's played in the past years, 23 year old Sara Lugo continuously worked on her own songs and songwriting skills, with the 12 best songs now comprising her debut album “What about love”.

Rather than simply a collection of lovers love songs, this album views this all encompassing emotion from a variety of angles. Starting with “What happened” and also in the duet with Lutan Fyah “They know not love” she questions the value of love in our society. In “Part of my life” we see the love between siblings who found back together after a time of conflict and “If tears” laments losing a loved person. And so this central topic “love” continues through and binds the whole album.

Musically Sara found her very own way to combine soul with roots reggae music. Drawing from the experience of many great musicians through collaborations, she has managed to blend in different styles of music to a smooth and fresh new sound.
